Psalm 5

For the Leader; upon the Nehiloth. A Psalm of David.

A David psalm.

Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.

Listen to my words, LORD, consider my deep sighs.

Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God; for unto Thee do I pray.

Pay attention to my cry for help, my King and my God, because I pray only to you.

O LORD, in the morning shalt Thou hear my voice; in the morning will I order my prayer unto Thee, and will look forward.

LORD, in the morning you hear my voice. In the morning I lay it all out before you, then I wait expectantly.

For Thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness; evil shall not sojourn with Thee.

You're not a God who enjoys wickedness; evil doesn't get a pass from you.

The boasters shall not stand in Thy sight; Thou hatest all workers of iniquity.

Proud braggarts can't stand in your presence; you hate all who do evil.

Thou destroyest them that speak falsehood; the LORD abhorreth the man of blood and of deceit.

You destroy liars. The LORD detests violent and deceitful people.

But as for me, in the abundance of Thy lovingkindness will I come into Thy house; I will bow down toward Thy holy temple in the fear of Thee.

But as for me, because of your great faithfulness I can enter your house; I bow down toward your holy temple in reverence of you.

O LORD, lead me in Thy righteousness because of them that lie in wait for me; make Thy way straight before my face.

Lead me, LORD, in your righteousness because of my enemies—make your way straight before me.

For there is no sincerity in their mouth; their inward part is a yawning gulf, their throat is an open sepulchre; they make smooth their tongue.

Not a word from their mouth can be trusted; their heart is filled with destruction. Their throat is an open grave; with their tongue they speak deceit.

Hold them guilty, O God, let them fall by their own counsels; cast them down in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against Thee.

Declare them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own schemes. Drive them out because of their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.

So shall all those that take refuge in Thee rejoice, they shall ever shout for joy, and Thou shalt shelter them; let them also that love Thy name exult in Thee.

But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them sing for joy forever. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.

For Thou dost bless the righteous; O LORD, Thou dost encompass him with favour as with a shield.

For you bless the righteous, LORD; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.
